When author, filmmaker and former professor of media culture Hans Puttnies visited the ruins for a 14-day stay in 2008, they were still standing. In his film „Palmyra“ he combines his shaky camera footage from back then with cruel Daesh propaganda videos shot in Palmyra; he tells the history of the ruins and sums up what is known about them. At the same time, he also tells the story of the people who seemed inseparably bound to the ruins. He thereby creates a striking document of its time, preserving what once was.
